“And in that moment I swear we were infinite.” -Perks of Being a Wallflower
This has been a quote that has always stuck out to me since I’ve read my favorite book. However, I never felt this feeling in my 22 years of life. This was until I went up to Haleakala Crater to watch the sunrise. This is a must do when coming to Maui. I have lived here three months and I have yet to experience its beauty. One day, however, Jen, Dayae (a girl from Canada working on farm for a few weeks) and I decided to make the hour drive up the mountain at 4 in the morning to take it all in.
As we drove up the mountain we became lost in the clouds. The sound track of our little road trip seemed to be playing exactly to our emotions. I almost wanted to cry since it was so perfect. We finally made it to the summit at around 5:30AM and had an hour to kill before the sun came up. When we stepped out of the car it was cold enough to see our breath (something that normally doesn’t happen on Maui.) We bundled as best we could in our small hoodies and little blankets and walked to a secluded part of the mountain we started mentally preparing for the beauty that was to be seen. As we arrived to the top there was complete silence. Only one other person was there sharing our same view. Recently I started doing a guided meditation through an app called Headspace. The top of this mountain seemed like a perfect place to do the meditation. As I sat there in silence breathing in I felt at peace. As soon as I opened my eyes the colors of the skies started to change. Soon the sun was up and the sky was completely lit up. It was an unbelievable experience. It was decided we had to go back the next morning. I truly felt completely infinite… I know it sounds so lame, but it is true. An unbelievable place with an unbelievable energy.
Though we didn’t wake up as early or with as much energy the next day we still made it up to the crater for the second day in a row. It was with no regrets. This sunrise was so much brighter and full of color. It was like a fairytale and seemed as though we were on Neverland. Haleakala is a magical place. Full of positive energy and gorgeous views. It is an amazing opportunity for anyone on Maui. Even though it is an early morning it is well worth it. Being able to see the world from on top of the mountain took my breath away. It was amazing to see two different perspectives of the mountain from two different days. If you ever find yourself on Maui do make sure to make the trek up the mountain. You will not regret it.
So if you’ve never heard this song you better get on it Asap…O Haleakala by Trevor Hall. I think you’ll really like it if you dont already. Thanks again for grabbin some of my art! Best of luck the rest of the way ๐
